The unveiling of her star came on the eve of another prestigious award for the singer, who will be honoured as the Latin Grammy person of the year in Las Vegas tonight.
Shakira was born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll in Barranquilla, Colombia and released her debut album Magia when she was just 13 years old.
In 2001, she shot to fame across the world with the release of her English-language single 'Whenever, Wherever'.
